The old social order fell; the old values supporting the network of relations lost their overtones under the new circumstances. Then, the interwar period brought a new order, based on the ruins of the older social divisions and, politically, on the ruins of old empires. A recognition of ethnic divisions still existed\u2014they preserved their weight\u2014but the divisions began to be perceived and interpreted from many local points of view (new nation-states). Wartime seemed to be a period during which the image of the Other was especially in focus. As our focus shifted later to World War II and much attention was paid to photography as a new medium that created the illusion of providing a faithful record of reality. There was a visible contrast between the grotesque presentations in caricatures aiming to sketch and exaggerate, and photography, which aimed to depict \u201cneutrally.\u201d WWII, however, triggered extreme polarizations and these were reflected in the visual representations. The horrors of war, the tragic human losses, and the almost constant mortal danger caused shock and, after the war, invited reflection. A new era began. People still described their \u201creality\u201d focusing on differences and the othering of the unknown, but they did it in a new way. The period after the end of WWII brought new state boundaries and new political relations in central and eastern Europe\u2014that is, the Cold War started and the iron curtain was lowered\u2014which to some degree prolonged mechanisms of othering established during WWII. The disease is a coded message from fate. However, the patient is the protagonist of their fate, and fate is shaped by the dramatics played out on a socio-psychological stage. Disease happens in the body\u2019s evolutionary structure, but this story is locked into the microecology of the inner world and the natural and sociocultural macroecology of existence. It is this eco-logic that creates the context for signals of socio-psychoimmunology. When pursuing the discovery of information on disease events, the neuroendocrine and immunology signals turn into reporting signals, psychoimmunology becomes a multi-dimensional semiotic problem, the evolutionary background of signals turns into etymology, and stress and its consequences become a narrative. This study attempts to describe a role model for middle managers based on the teachings of the New Testament, primarily on the requirements set forth in the first letter of the Apostle Paul to Timothy. Middle managers who follow this role model reject double talk. Both their superiors and subordinates trust them, knowing that they will protect them from illegal and professionally incorrect decisions. Their integrity is based on their stable value system and strong character. They are soft-hearted, believe in the usefulness of soft management tools, and can use them properly thanks to their high emotional intelligence. Over recent years, code-switching as a linguistic phenomenon particularly characterizing bilinguals\u2019 speech patterns has been examined from the perspective of providing a lucid explanation of the interplay of linguistic-pragmatic and socio-cultural factors activated in bilingual speech mode. This book will attempt to provide a complex analysis of code-switching patterns in a Hungarian-American bilingual community in the Triangle area of North Carolina, USA. The main premise of the book is that the complex linguistic-pragmatic nature of code-switching patterns activated by various socio-cultural factors can be systematically interpreted in the framework of the theory of Optimality.
