conducted to determine the publication rate of abstracts presented at the American College of Physicians Japan Chapter Annual Meetings (2013\u20102014). Publication rates were determined by searching the <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">MEDLINE<\/jats:styled-content> database for full\u2010text articles.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Results<\/jats:title><jats:p>Of the 116 abstracts evaluated, 14 (12.1% [95% <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">CI<\/jats:styled-content> 6.1%\u201018.1%]) were subsequently published in peer\u2010reviewed journals indexed in the <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">MEDLINE<\/jats:styled-content> database.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Conclusion<\/jats:title><jats:p>Further studies to investigate the barriers to publication among Japanese investigators and additional efforts to improve this low publication rate are pulmonary neoplasms. Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is a typical example of an infection that mimics cancer and results in unexpected exposure of healthcare workers to TB. A large number of patients with suspected lung malignancy are referred to cancer centers, although the epidemiology of the final diagnosis is unclear in Japan. This study aimed to determine the frequency and nature of pulmonary infections that imitate malignancy among patients with presumed lung cancer that is subsequently diagnosed as a pulmonary infection based on bronchoscopy findings. We also aimed to identify the prevalence of formerly undiagnosed pulmonary tuberculosis that could pose an occupational risk to healthcare workers.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Methods<\/jats:title><jats:p>This single\u2010center retrospective cross\u2010sectional study included patients with suspected pulmonary malignancy who underwent bronchoscopy at a tertiary care cancer center in Japan between April 2017 and March 2020. Electronic medical records of the bronchoscopy database were reviewed to identify the final diagnoses recorded by physicians.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Results<\/jats:title><jats:p>Among the 460 patients enrolled in the present study, 362 (78.7%) and 8 (1.7%) had primary or metastatic pulmonary lesions and benign lesions, respectively. Sixty\u2010six patients (14.3%) had nonspecific findings or other pulmonary diseases. Infection was confirmed in 24 patients (5.2%). Mycobacterial infections (n\u00a0=\u00a016) were the most frequent infectious disease; four patients had TB and 12 had nontuberculous mycobacterial infections.<\/jats:p><\/jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Conclusions<\/jats:title><jats:p>Despite the rare occurrence of TB in patients with suspected lung malignancy, healthcare workers should remain vigilant regarding the possibility of TB to prevent occupational exposure during invasive procedures such as routine Computed tomography of the abdomen revealed a nonenhancing area in the left kidney with renal artery occlusion. Hyperhomocysteinemia, which is known as a risk factor of cardiovascular and thrombotic diseases, was also diagnosed. We performed percutaneous transluminal renal intervention using an aspiration catheter, and started the replacement therapy for folic acid and vitamin B deficiencies in addition to anticoagulant therapy. With improvement of blood perfusion in the left kidney, the patient was discharged after 15 days. In this patient with renal infarction, hyperhomocysteinemia may have been However, cares for severe patients are limited in remote hospitals. In addition, bad weather often makes medical evacuation difficult in such areas. A 66\u2010year\u2010old man had urinary tract infection by <jats:italic>Escherichia coli<\/jats:italic>, followed by septic shock and DIC rapidly just 2\u2009days after the onset. He recovered in 3\u2009weeks without any massive bleeding. <jats:title>Objective<\/jats:title>\n                    <jats:p>Although symptom assessment is fundamental to palliative care, its independent impact on survival remains unclear. This study addresses survival time differences between high and low symptom burden, assessed using the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (ESAS), among terminal cancer patients (PPS\u2009\u2264\u200930) at Naresuan University Hospital.<\/jats:p>\n                  <\/jats:sec>\n                  <jats:sec>\n                    <jats:title>Material and Methods<\/jats:title>\n                    <jats:p>A bidirectional observational cohort study was conducted from October 1, 2019, to January 31, 2024. Patients were categorized into high or low symptom distress groups based on ESAS physical, emotional, and total symptom scores. Multivariable models adjusted for age, sex, BMI, Charlson Comorbidity Index, and metastatic sites. Survival impact was quantified using restricted mean survival time (RMST) and hazard ratios (HR).<\/jats:p>\n                  <\/jats:sec>\n                  <jats:sec>\n                    <jats:title>Results<\/jats:title>\n                    <jats:p>A total of 143 terminal cancer patients were included; 76 were males (53.15%) and the average age was 66.17\u2009\u00b1\u200912.11\u2009years. HRs for high physical, emotional, and total symptom distress scores (TSDS) were 1.50 (95% CI: 1.02\u20132.20), 1.02 (95% CI: 0.64\u20131.63), and 1.34 (95% CI: 0.91\u20131.97), respectively. Only the physical domain remained significant after adjustment. RMST demonstrated that patients with high physical burden experienced a significant survival reduction of 3.70\u2009days (95% CI: \u22127.17 to \u22120.23) within a 28\u2010day follow\u2010up period.<\/jats:p>\n                  <\/jats:sec>\n                  <jats:sec>\n                    <jats:title>Conclusions<\/jats:title>\n                    <jats:p>High physical symptom burden is significantly associated with shorter survival in terminal cancer patients. These findings highlight the prognostic importance of physical symptoms, emphasizing the need for effective symptom management to optimize remaining survival time.<\/jats:p>\n
