The mineral bone density in adults, an important component of bone resistance, depends on the peak of bone mass acquired and accumulated by 11 to 14-year-old girls and by 13 and 17-year-old boys. Sources: MEDLINE, LILACS, Scielo and PUBmed were searched for relevant Portuguese, English and spanish- language article. Objectives: This article revises the properties of calcium, the risk factors for osteoporosis as well as the various physiological and nutritional factors that may intervene in the bioavailability of calcium. Results: As a result, patients should be oriented about food rich in calcium and their daily needs. Agood bone formation is considered one of the most efficient ways to prevent osteoporosis in old age.
[[2020,2,17
["Why we need to eat milk products?
Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) have shown an increase in incidence worldwide. The pathogenesis of IBD is that genetically susceptible individuals develop intolerance to dysregulated gut microbiota (dysbiosis) and chronic inflammation develops as a result of poor dietary triggers. Diet plays an important role in modulating the gut microbiota and can be applied as a therapeutic tool to improve the course of the disease. Objective: It was to carry out a systematic review of the main interactions between nutrology, gut microbiota, and inflammatory bowel disease, to elucidate the main clinical outcomes of the disease after nutrological treatment, analyzing the main macro and micronutrients. Methods: The PRISMA Platform systematic review rules were followed. The search was carried out from August to October 2023 in the Scopus, PubMed, Science Direct, Scielo, and Google Scholar databases. The quality of the studies was based on the GRADE instrument and the risk of bias was analyzed according to the Cochrane instrument. Results and Conclusion: 144 articles were found. A total of 39 articles were evaluated in full and 30 were included and developed in the present systematic review study. Considering the Cochrane tool for risk of bias, the overall assessment resulted in 27 studies with a high risk of bias and 22 studies that did not meet GRADE and AMSTAR-2. Most studies showed homogeneity in their results, with X2=59.9%>50%. With nutritional treatment, several micronutrients have the potential to modulate intestinal inflammation. Immunonutrition has demonstrated its importance through vitamins A, C, E, and D, folic acid, beta-carotene, and trace elements such as zinc, selenium, manganese, and iron. The Specific Carbohydrate Diet, fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyol diet, and the Mediterranean diet also appear to show strong anti-inflammatory properties and promise to improve symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease. Diet modulation can control IBD by reducing persistent intestinal symptoms, balancing the gut microbiota, and reducing markers of inflammation. Dietary therapy can improve the quality of life of IBD patients.
[[2024,1,20
["Nutritional modulation of gut microbiota in inflammatory bowel disease: a systematic review
[[2024,1,18
International Journal of Nutrology
[[2024,1,29
[[2024,1,18
[[2023,12,12
https://doi.org/10.54448/ijn24106
2595-2854","1984-3011
[[2024,1,18
2023,9,16
[[2023,8,8
["MedNEXT
Initially, it should be noted that the birth of premature babies constitutes the fundamental cause of morbidity and mortality and morbidity soon after birth. There are several factors that imply risks and are directly related to its development, such as the use of psychoactive substances, infections of the genito-urinary tract and tobacco. smoke and other infections at a distance. Periodontal disease is considered an independent risk factor for premature low birth weight babies, which places active periodontal disease as an independent risk factor for the birth of premature and low birth weight babies. In this perspective, the objective of this work is to analyze periodontal disease as a risk factor for prematurely born babies. The methodology used in the development of the work is the literature review, with the use of articles from reference periodicals for the theme. It can be stated that in cases of periodontal disease, inflammatory stimuli can induce hyperirritability of the uterine smooth muscle, causing contraction of the uterus and cervical dilation, triggering premature birth. By constituting a chronic infection, it can influence the occurrence of premature birth indirectly or directly. However, it is important to understand that the treatment of periodontal disease is effective, reducing the incidence of premature birth.
[[2023,9,15
["Relationship between periodontal disease in pregnant women and premature birth: a comprehensive review
[[2023,8,8
MedNEXT Journal of Medical and Health Sciences
[[2023,9,15
[[2023,8,8
[[2023,7,21
https://doi.org/10.54448/mdnt23s303
2763-5678
[[2023,8,8
2025,2,21
[[2020,12,8
["International Journal of Nutrology
2020,12
Resumo
Contexto e Objetivo Jejum prolongado aumenta a resistência insulínica pós-operatória, dificultando a convalescência cirúrgica. The main means of prevention is through photoprotection, together with factors such as solar incidence in the region, the habits of the population, and the skin phototype. The relationship between photoprotection and vitamin D is fundamental for patient orientation since photoprotection is a practice widely used today for all people, both those who have already suffered some type of skin cancer and others who are at greater risk or not. to develop it. On the other hand, some studies suggest that the photoprotection of the skin would jeopardize the development of Vitamin D, which may cause its deficiency, and may subject patients to future changes in bone mineralization, increasing the risk of bone deformities and fractures since the vitamin D is essential for bone tissue and its production is stimulated by skin exposure to ultraviolet B radiation (UVB), with natural sources limited through the diet. lanches intermediários das crianças escolares brasileiras. In recent years, a platelet concentrate called FRP (fibrin-rich plasma) has been the subject of clinical studies. Associated with this, the biomaterial Bio-Oss® (Geistlich), as it is biodegradable, biocompatible, non-toxic, and has low immunogenicity, and bio stimulators can act in the regeneration of bone tissue, as it establishes with the cells the appropriate biological niche (favorable microenvironment) for bone growth. Objective: Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate, through a brief systematic review, the results that involve bone formation for dental implantation, with the use of biomaterials such as fibrin-rich plasma and Bio-Oss®. Methods: The model used for the review was PRISMA. Was used databases such as Scopus, Scielo, Lilacs, Google Scholar, PubMed. Results: Fibrin-rich plasma (FRP) as an autologous biomaterial for use in oral and maxillofacial surgery presents most leukocytes, platelets, and growth factors, forming a fibrin matrix, with three-dimensional architecture. The Bio-Oss® biomaterial (Geistlich), as it is biodegradable, biocompatible, non-toxic, and has low immunogenicity and bio stimulators can act in the regeneration of bone tissue, since it establishes with the adenomatous mesenchymal stem cells the appropriate biological niche for bone growth and, thus, allowing the dental implant to be as effective as possible. Conclusion: The use of FRP associated with Bio-Oss® seems to illustrate high success rates with minimal costs, which may reduce the amount of bone graft needed to fill the sinus cavity, reducing the costs of the (Sars-COV 2), a disease known worldwide, began in the city of Wuhan, China, and was transmitted through inhalation, ingestion, and/or direct contact with the virus. Due to the pandemic situation, new studies are being carried out on the relationship between COVID-19 and dentistry. In this way, the objective of the study was to carry out a literature review on the relationship between periodontal disease and COVID-19, and how problems in the oral cavity can interfere with the prognosis of patients hospitalized for the disease. It was then concluded that there is a relationship between periodontal disease and COVID-19 and that periodontitis causes COVID-19 cases to be more severe and cause greater sequelae than in patients with healthy gums. It also emphasizes that the dentist, as well as professionals who are on the front line in the care of patients with COVID-19, should be aware of the measures to remove bacterial plaque and oral hygiene, to minimize the sequelae caused to the patient. Current Sri Lankan evidence shows a gradual increase of cancers where many are preventable by risk factor reduction. According to the data of the National Cancer Registry, Sri Lanka in 2019, there were 14,845 (47%) males and 16,989 (53%) females diagnosed with cancer with a total of 31844. One of the recommendations of the imPACT review 2019 was to develop the NSP to achieve quality of life by preventing and control of cancer in Sri Lanka. National Cancer Control Programme, Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka gave the leadership to develop the National Strategic Plan (2020-2024) that provided a direction for the country for cancer prevention and control. Methods: Based on the local and international evidence initial draft was prepared by the NCCP. Feedback was obtained via emails and virtual meetings from all the stakeholders (medical professional colleges, UN organizations, non-government organizations, community-based organizations) due to COVID 19 physical meeting restrictions. This was followed by a series of virtual meetings with the same stakeholders and finalizing the document. Results: The NSP was developed for the year 2020-2024 as a guiding document for Sri Lanka’s response to cancer control and prevention with a vision and a goal to be achieved in cancer prevention and control in the country. This document has laid down seven strategic objectives and seven strategic directions to serve as pillars for the cancer spectrum with a detailed activity plan under each strategic direction. Conclusion and recommendations: The NSP was developed to reduce cancer incidence and mortality via evidence-based strategic objectives of prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment and palliation, surveillance, and research with an activity plan. There are over 1,300 types of dental implants. DI also has several side effects such as biological complications, which are adverse reactions in the hard and soft tissues of the implant prosthesis, such as mucositis and peri-implantitis. Still, poor oral health, alcohol intake, and smoking are some of the underlying predictors that contribute to these complications. Objective: A systematic review was carried out on the main considerations of early loss of dental implants, presenting through clinical findings the main predictors of dental implant failure. Methods: The rules of the Systematic Review-PRISMA Platform. The research was carried out from December 2021 to February 2022 and developed based on Scopus, PubMed, Science Direct, Scielo, and Google Scholar. The quality of the studies was based on the GRADE instrument and the risk of bias was analyzed according to the Cochrane instrument. Results: A total of 244 articles were found. In total, 102 articles were fully evaluated and 32 were included and evaluated in this study. Lack of primary stability, surgical trauma, and infection are the main predictors. It can be said that the quality and quantity of bone enable a high success rate for the preservation of alveolar bone around implants. The highlights of predictors of DI failures are biological failures, mechanical failures, iatrogenic failures, inadequate adaptation, which includes aesthetic dissatisfaction and psychological problems. Conclusion: Despite the high success rate, implants fail. Primary instability, surgical trauma, and perioperative contamination appear to be the most important predictors of implant failure. Furthermore, the determination of this genetic pattern in osseous integration makes it possible to identify individuals at greater risk of implant loss. Thus, genetic markers are important, contributing to an adequate preoperative selection and development of prevention strategies and individualized therapy to modulate genetic markers and increase the success rate of treatments.
[[2022,5,28
["Major predictors of early dental implant loss: a systematic review
[[2022,5,25
MedNEXT Journal of Medical and Health Sciences
[[2022,5,28
[[2022,5,25
[[2022,5,8
https://doi.org/10.54448/mdnt22s315
2763-5678
[[2022,5,25
2025,6,25
[[2025,6,20
["MedNEXT J Med Health Sci
Introduction: Priapism is defined as a persistent and painful erection without sexual stimulation that lasts at least 4 hours. Although rare, it can be triggered by some factors such as hemoglobinopathies, paraneoplastic syndromes, and the use of recreational drugs and antipsychotics, with atypical and typical antipsychotics being responsible for half of the medication-induced priapisms. Objective: The present study aimed to record two clinical cases of priapism after the administration of a typical antipsychotic, levomepromazine, in two patients who were hospitalized in a psychiatric institution. It is important to recognize this manifestation to guide patients about prolonged and pathological erection, to prevent not only possible complications but also to ensure good medication adherence. Clinical cases: This study was analyzed and approved by the Research Ethics Committee according to a substantiated opinion number 6.949.882, and the patient's consent through the Informed Consent Form. Patient 1: Upon admission, he was prescribed thiamine, lorazepam, and levomepromazine. After eight days of regular use of the medication, he presented with prolonged (>4h) painful penile erection without the presence of sexual stimulation or excitement and was diagnosed with priapism. Patient 2: In the final phase of treatment, stable, when after withdrawal of benzodiazepines he presented with initial insomnia, it was decided to optimize the dose of levomepromazine (already being used) from 75 mg to 100 mg at night. One day later, he presented with priapism and was referred to the emergency room and administered local analgesia. Final considerations: Based on the two clinical case reports described, it is possible to infer that priapism was generated as a consequence of the use of levomepromazine, since this type of adverse reaction can already be expected, although not so frequently, from the use of antipsychotics based on the existing literature.
[[2025,6,24
["Levomepromazine-induced priapism: a description of clinical cases
[[2025,6,20
MedNEXT Journal of Medical and Health Sciences
[[2025,6,24
[[2025,6,20
[[2025,6,3
https://doi.org/10.54448/mdnt25302
2763-5678
[[2025,6,20
2025,6,25
[[2025,6,17
["MedNEXT J Med Health Sci
Introduction: Techniques for administering injectable fillers for facial rejuvenation and aesthetic enhancement continue to evolve. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is the most commonly used soft tissue filler. The cross-linking process is also essential to improve the mechanical properties and control the rate of HA degradation. The great challenge lies in the rational choice of the product to be used according to the anatomical area to be corrected. Objective: This was to conduct a literature review on the different types of hyaluronic acid crosslinking and the appropriate choice of the product in different regions of the face, especially in areas where the product can be migrated due to the musculature, as the appropriate choice directly interferes with its benefits and results. Methods: The systematic review rules of the PRISMA Platform and the methodological quality of AMSTAR 2 were followed. The research was carried out from March to April 2025 in the Web of Science, Scopus, Embase, PubMed, Lilacs, Ebsco, Scielo, and Google Scholar databases. The quality of the studies was based on the GRADE instrument and the risk of bias was analyzed according to the Cochrane instrument. Results and Conclusion: A total of 138 articles were found. A total of 32 articles were fully evaluated and 12 were included and developed in the present systematic review study. The clinical studies showed homogeneity in their results, with Chi-Square (X2) = 72.2%>50%. Considering the Cochrane tool for risk of bias, the overall evaluation resulted in 40 studies with a high risk of bias and 20 studies that did not meet the GRADE. The studies generally showed safe effects, with a high success rate and aesthetic satisfaction with the participants' application of the types of hyaluronic acids. Restylane Defyne hyaluronic acid filler was safe and effective for augmentation of the chin region and was associated with high aesthetic improvement and patient satisfaction. Furthermore, studies have generally shown the beneficial effects of flexible hyaluronic acid fillers in the augmentation and perioral enhancement of the lips, demonstrating a significant improvement in the texture, red color, and fullness of the lips. A substantial increase in surface stretch (dynamic tension) was also observed, indicating tissue expansion and improvement in lip smoothness. The 20 mg/mL hyaluronic acid gel with lidocaine for cheek augmentation was safe and effective using a cannula and was non-inferior to needle injection. The evaluation of the effect of Sardenyashape® with lidocaine demonstrated its efficacy and safety for use in the correction of nasolabial folds. The success of lip filler treatment is the result of the combination of a visually volumizing effect, satisfaction with the anatomical shape, function, recovery, and psychosocial effects.
[[2025,6,24
["Main clinical outcomes of orofacial harmonization and choice of appropriate filling: a systematic review
[[2025,6,17
MedNEXT Journal of Medical and Health Sciences
[[2025,6,24
[[2025,6,17
[[2025,6,7
https://doi.org/10.54448/mdnt25s303
2763-5678
[[2025,6,17
2025,9,23
[[2025,9,23
["IJN
[[2025,9,23
["Catch-Up Growth or Catch-up Development? Oral nutritional supplements containing collagen peptides can reduce skin vulnerability in the elderly and thus prevent conditions such as skin lesions. The direct effects of collagen peptides on fibroblasts, M2-like macrophages, and mechanisms related to oral tolerance are the possible mechanisms for the beneficial effects of collagen supplementation. Special collagen peptides together with acerola extract, vitamin C, vitamin E, biotin, and zinc showed a significant improvement in the skin's collagen structure. The proven positive nutritional effect on collagen structure was fully consistent with the quality of healthy skin. Finally, apple-derived nanovesicles (exosomes) also reduce the degradation of the extracellular matrix, increasing collagen synthesis (COL3A1, COL1A2, COL8A1, and COL6A1) and negatively regulating the production of metalloproteinases.
[[2024,1,5
["Clinical studies and meta-analysis on the effects of collagen, vitamin, and nutrient supplementation for the rejuvenation of collagenic fibers: a systematic review
[[2024,1,5
International Journal of Nutrology
[[2024,1,5
[[2024,1,5
[[2023,12,12
https://doi.org/10.54448/ijn24102
2595-2854","1984-3011
[[2024,1,5
