Extracellular HMGB1 elicits the migration to the site of tissue damage of several cell types, including inflammatory cells and stem cells. The identity of the signaling pathways activated by extracellular HMGB1 is not known completely: We reported previously that ERK and NF-\u03baB pathways are involved, and we report here that Src is also activated. The ablation of Src or inhibition with the kinase inhibitor PP2 blocks migration toward HMGB1. Src associates to and mediates the phosphorylation of FAK and the formation of focal adhesions.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1189\/jlb.0908581","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2009,4,29]],"date-time":"2009-04-29T01:14:21Z","timestamp":1240967661000},"page":"617-623","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":50,"title":["Src family kinases are necessary for cell migration induced by extracellular HMGB1"],"prefix":"10.1093","volume":"86","author":[{"given":"Roberta","family":"Palumbo","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"San Raffaele Research Institute, Faculty of Medicine , Milan, Italy"}]},{"given":"Francesco","family":"De Marchis","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"San Raffaele Research Institute, Faculty of Medicine , Milan, Italy"}]},{"given":"Tobias","family":"Pusterla","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"San Raffaele Research Institute, Faculty of Medicine , Milan, Italy"},{"name":"San Raffaele University, Faculty of Medicine , Milan, Italy"}]},{"given":"Antonio","family":"Conti","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"San Raffaele Research Institute, Faculty of Medicine , Milan, Italy"}]},{"given":"Massimo","family":"Alessio","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"San Raffaele Research Institute, Faculty of Medicine , Milan, Italy"}]},{"given":"Marco E","family":"Bianchi","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"San Raffaele University, Faculty of Medicine , Milan, Italy"}]}],"member":"286","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2009,4,28]]},"reference":[{"key":"2023032913103433800_jlb0617-cit-B1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"170","DOI":"10.1016\/S0959-437X(03)00023-6","article-title":"HMGB proteins and gene expression","volume":"13","author":"Agresti","year":"2003","journal-title":"Curr.
