To successfully reap the full range of benefits of EDI, organizations must integrate their application systems with the EDI systems. This integration can be achieved by properly understanding the different subsystems involved in EDI. This article discusses the EDI standards, the hardware, the software, and the communication networks required for both domestic and international interchange of transactions. EDI translation software converts transactions into ANSI ASC X12 or EDIFACT format. Communication networks with the help of communication software transmit these standardized transactions to the trading partner's application system for appropriate response. Installation, maintenance, and control procedures are needed for proper operations of the EDI system.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1002\/9780470050118.ecse131","type":"other","created":{"date-parts":[[2007,12,10]],"date-time":"2007-12-10T19:16:28Z","timestamp":1197314188000},"source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["Electronic Data Interchange"],"prefix":"10.1002","author":[{"given":"Rajesh","family":"Aggarwal","sequence":"first","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"311","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2007,12,14]]},"reference":[{"volume-title":"Guidelines for the Evaluation of Electronic Data interchange Products","author":"Garguilo J.
