An ideal home automation system would relieve the inhabitant of a house of any unwanted manual control of every appliance and electrical or gas equipment in the house and would provide for an automated environment that would be aware of specific user needs and habits and program the operation of these appliances accordingly. Given the recent advances and drop in costs in computers, fiber optics, and multimedia communications, the concept of home automation systems has been extended to include data, voice, and visual communications inside a home.
