Queueing theory is used in to analyze the expected performance of all such systems. At design time, it is used to determine the optimal level of resources to provision. During operation, queueing theory is used to predict the performance expected of the system and to provide quality\u2010of\u2010service guarantees to the users of the system. Consequently, queueing theory is an indispensable tool for computer system designers and analysts.
