Looking at the overall design time, validation requires in general significantly more than 50% of the resources. Furthermore, the composition of the design teams have noticeably changed: Although at the beginning of the 1990s, about one third of the design team was involved in validation issues, one decade later already over two thirds of the team was dealing with these issues. Two fundamental trends are observed in the VLSI community that contribute to the continuous increase of this effect in the future.
