It is frequently induced by self\u2010shadowing or self\u2010masking, resulting in so\u2010called Janus colloids. This strategy works very reliably, but turns into a bottleneck once up\u2010scaling becomes important. Herein, existing alternatives are discussed and a novel synthetic pathway yielding active swimmers in a one\u2010pot synthesis is presented.
