In this article, 17 \u201cidea tactics\u201d are presented: tactics to help generate new ideas or solutions to problems in information searching. The focus of these tactics is psychological; they are intended to help improve the information specialist's thinking and creative processes in searching. The tactics are applicable to all kinds of situations\u2014both bibliographic and reference searches, and in both manual and online systems.
