Sci."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[1982,9]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>Abstract<\/jats:title><jats:p>The general availability of government\u2010sponsored studies on scientific and technical information (STI) provides an opportunity to trace the development of \u201cmarketing research\u201d in a specific industry. A review of this research tradition revealed two major orientations; a series of \u201cuser\u201d\u2010oriented studies, followed by \u201csystems\u201d\u2010oriented studies. It is suggested that traditional STI user studies may have produced \u201cmyopic\u201d research results, and systems studies may have produced \u201cmacropic\u201d research results for STI policy decisions.
