The sections had been treated by Nauta's silver impregnation method and stained alternately with cresyl violet or the Luxol fast preparation. The main site of degeneration lay in the posterior nuclear group, in a band of cells and fibers interposed between the ventrobasal complex and the medial geniculate body. Terminal degeneration was also present throughout the lateral region of the ventrobasal complex, being most dense caudolaterally.
