PI controller in a cascaded fashion is used in both the loops for current and speed control. The parameters of the controller are designed using a linearized model of PMSM by direct\u2010synthesis approach. Generally, the drive's performance is degraded in the presence of disturbances, so an enhanced nonlinear disturbance observer is proposed by using a nonlinear design function to improve the antidisturbance performance. The proposed disturbance observer effectively estimates lumped disturbances and feeds them forward for compensation. The suggested control technique is tested in MATLAB\/SIMULINK environment and its efficacy has been validated by experimental demonstration on a laboratory\u2010based setup of PMSM drive with d\u2010SPACE 1104. The comparative results with PI and internal model controller (IMC) under various scenarios of load torque disturbances are analyzed to prove the superiority of the proposed control
