We report here that both antibodies recognize the carbohydrate structure 3\u2010fucosyl\u2010<jats:sc>N<\/jats:sc>\u2010acetyllactosamine with the following sequence: <jats:chem-struct-wrap><jats:chem-struct><jats:graphic xmlns:xlink=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/1999\/xlink\" mimetype=\"image\/gif\" position=\"anchor\" specific-use=\"enlarged-web-image\" xlink:href=\"graphic\/must001.gif\"><jats:alt-text>magnified image<\/jats:alt-text><\/jats:graphic><\/jats:chem-struct><\/jats:chem-struct-wrap> This structure is the same as that recognized by a hybridoma antibody against mouse teratocarcinoma cells (anti\u2010SSEA\u20101) which recognizes an early embryonic antigen in the mouse. Until recently this carbohydrate structure was considered to be rare among glycoproteins and glycosphingolipids. However, there is a growing list of human and animal glycoproteins in which this sequence has been detected by chemical and immunochemical methods.
