In wildtype mice, CD8\u03b1\u03b1<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup>\u03b2<jats:sup>\u2212<\/jats:sup>TCR\u03b1\u03b2<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup> T cells of intestinal intraepithelial lymphocytes (i\u2010IEL) utilized CD3\u03b6 homodimers and \u03b6\u2010FcR<jats:sub>\u03b3<\/jats:sub> heterodimers, whereas CD8\u03b1 \u03b1<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup>\u03b2<jats:sup>\u2212<\/jats:sup>TCR<jats:sub>\u03b3<\/jats:sub>\u03b4<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup> i\u2010IEL used \u03b6\u2010FcR<jats:sub>\u03b3<\/jats:sub> and FcR<jats:sub>\u03b3<\/jats:sub> homodimers in the TCR complex. On the other hand, these T cells in FcR<jats:sub>\u03b3<\/jats:sub>\u2010deficient mice contained only \u03b6 homodimers. The surface expression of the TCR complex was reduced in CD8\u03b1\u03b1<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup>\u03b2<jats:sup>\u2212<\/jats:sup>i\u2010IEL and dendritic epidermal T cells (DETC) in these mice, whereas the development of these T cells was normal. The degree of reduction appeared to depend on the expression level of FcR<jats:sub>\u03b3<\/jats:sub>. In contrast to these populations, TCR<jats:sub>\u03b3<\/jats:sub>\u03b4<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup> intraepithelial T cells in reproductive organs (r\u2010IEL) were dramatically decreased, suggesting that the development of r\u2010IEL is FcR<jats:sub>\u03b3<\/jats:sub>\u2010dependent, probably due to the predominant usage of FcR<jats:sub>\u03b3<\/jats:sub> homodimers in the TCR complex.
