Informally, the <jats:italic>rotation number h(G, x)<\/jats:italic> of this rooted graph is the minimum number of edges in a <jats:italic>p<\/jats:italic> vertex graph <jats:italic>H<\/jats:italic> such that for each vertex <jats:italic>v<\/jats:italic> of <jats:italic>H<\/jats:italic>, there exists a copy of <jats:italic>G<\/jats:italic> in <jats:italic>H<\/jats:italic> with the root <jats:italic>x<\/jats:italic> at <jats:italic>v<\/jats:italic>.
