For an independent set <jats:italic>S<\/jats:italic> \u2282 <jats:italic>V<\/jats:italic>(<jats:italic>G<\/jats:italic>) of <jats:italic>k<\/jats:italic> vertices, we define the <jats:italic>k<\/jats:italic> neighborhood intersections <jats:italic>S<\/jats:italic><jats:sub><jats:italic>i<\/jats:italic><\/jats:sub> = {<jats:italic>v<\/jats:italic> \u03f5 <jats:italic>V<\/jats:italic>(<jats:italic>G<\/jats:italic>)&amp;&amp;num;92;<jats:italic>S<\/jats:italic>|<jats:italic>N<\/jats:italic>(<jats:italic>v<\/jats:italic>) \u2229 S| = <jats:italic>i<\/jats:italic>}, 1 \u2266 <jats:italic>i<\/jats:italic> \u2266 <jats:italic>k<\/jats:italic>, with <jats:italic>s<\/jats:italic><jats:sub><jats:italic>i<\/jats:italic><\/jats:sub> = |<jats:italic>S<\/jats:italic><jats:sub><jats:italic>i<\/jats:italic><\/jats:sub>|.
