An important underlying dimension to this perspective portrays a continuum of interest from biophysics through biomechanics to biomedicine to (presumably) biology (which is noticeable in its absence). Medical Informatics may be described as the application of information science and information technology to the theoretical and practical problems of biomedical research, clinical practice, and medical education.
