The study builds on a theoretical framework derived from the theories of social capital and social exchange. A model of knowledge sharing in an electronic community of practice has been developed based on this framework. The model that considers the factors influencing the participants' intention to share their knowledge and their knowledge contribution has been empirically tested using a survey in the Financial Management Community of Practice in the USAF Portal. The results show that significant predictors of intention to share knowledge were self‐rated expertise, commitment and loss of knowledge power. Tenure in the field and reciprocity were the two significant predictors of knowledge contribution. The findings indicate that motivational factors and organizational rewards did not affect intention to share and knowledge contribution. The results also show that loss of knowledge power negatively affected intention to share suggesting a tendency to hoard knowledge.
[[2007,11,5
["Factors influencing knowledge sharing in the financial management community of practice of the USAF portal
[[2007,10,10
Alavi M. &Leidner D.(1999) Knowledge Management Systems: Issues Challenges and BenefitsCommunication of the Association for Information Systems(1) 1–28
Behavioral Intention Formation in Knowledge Sharing: Examining the Roles of Extrinsic Motivators, Social‐Psychological Forces, and Organizational Climate
Coleman J.
