Mixed methods approach to data collection and analysis allowed us to obtain a comprehensive overview of the SNS group usage and conclude that it played an important role in student learning. Patterns of the group utilization became the evidence of extending the classic principles of PBL in medical education into a digital learning environment, which, in its turn, results in gradual transformation of medical students' information behavior.
