Based on input from approximately 50 medical informationists, a checklist of needed knowledge\/skills was compiled. The curricula of 19 schools of information and library science (ILS) were then evaluated, in terms of their coverage of the required knowledge\/skills. Course offerings on topics related to technology and information content were abundant, while coverage of topics related to users\/people, communication and interpersonal skills, and intellectual outlook\/personal attributes was spotty.
