Tech."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2017,1]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>ABSTRACT<\/jats:title><jats:p>This project proposes utilizing the textual features of only the new sentences of financial filings to predict the analyst rating following that filing. Instead of treating each document as independent, this examines the efficacy of limiting models to be trained only on sentences that do not appear in the previous filing. This approach greatly reduces the amount of text processed by a model, in the hope of counteracting overfitting, as well as controlling for boilerplate language from one document to the next, which is not expected to be informative for analysts' decision making. At the same time, this approach does not assume that information is only contained in certain sections or that the document adheres to a strict structure, as all text including any tables and footnotes are analyzed.
