Robotic Syst."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[1984,6]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>Abstract<\/jats:title><jats:p>In this article, the implementation of a microcomputer\u2010based control system using a low\u2010cost 16\u2010bit single\u2010board microcomputer combined with a general\u2010purpose data acquisition board is described. It is intended that this combination forms a suitable basis of a control system for the type of complex sensor systems currently associated with modern industrial robots. The technique of interfacing a 16\u2010bit microcomputer to a peripheral environment which has essentially an 8\u2010bit architecture is presented. The result is a high\u2010performance, low\u2010cost analog data processing and control system. A novel timing device with both software\u2010 and hardware\u2010configurable features has been developed so that an accurate interval timer for use with sample data systems is also available.
