It is thus desirable to develop a recognition method without complicated algorithms which is as human\u2010like as possible. Towards this end we propose a shape analysis method involving trial and error processes. We propose a new image processing system using hardware in a top\u2010down manner. Functions largely realized by hardware are: the placing of a local slit of suitable size in a proper position based on high\u2010level structural description of the objects, extracting local features by automatic position control and returning the information to higher\u2010level processing.
