In the proposed method, the maximum permissible error is specified, and the line drawing with arbitrary curvature is coded within the specified error. In such a case, it is advisable to use the triangular grid for quantization. To improve the efficiency, the direction difference as well as the segment length are simultaneously coded for several links of the triangular grid. Compared with the case of linkwise coding, the number of states to be discriminated is increased in such a shceme, making the coding complex. To simplify the procedure, a template is used to normalize the coding procedure.
