NEVIS models the network based on queueing theory. For the server that is the major component of the network, its state is defined for each domain knowledge, and the transition between states is defined based on a change of flow by generation of an event. The state transition is estimated by qualitative reasoning. To avoid ambiguity, quantitative information is added so that an accurate result of reasoning is obtained. The function of NEVIS are to estimate the propagation of the effect of the event by introducing a time concept, to generate a display and explanation for the change of state, and to improve the state of the network through an interaction with its user. Those functions help the user's understanding about the operation of the network. The effective use of the network as well as the means to cope with the event can be planned reflecting the request from the user.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1002\/scj.4690240605","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2007,7,8]],"date-time":"2007-07-08T01:10:03Z","timestamp":1183857003000},"page":"47-59","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["A knowledge\u2010based system for envisioning network flow"],"prefix":"10.1002","volume":"24","author":[{"given":"Hiroshi","family":"Kurokawa","sequence":"first","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Noboru","family":"Babaguchi","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Yoshikazu","family":"Tezuka","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"311","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2007,3,21]]},"reference":[{"issue":"2","key":"e_1_2_1_2_2","first-page":"105","article-title":"Idea of qualitative reasoning and its application to intelligent problem solution","volume":"32","author":"Nishida T.","year":"1991","journal-title":"Inf.
