This fragment is located between the genetic loci <jats:italic>mif2<\/jats:italic> and <jats:italic>mak11<\/jats:italic>. We have detected five new open reading frames (ORFs) longer than 300 bp provisionally called <jats:italic>YKL248<\/jats:italic> to <jats:italic>YKL252<\/jats:italic>. One of them, <jats:italic>YKL248<\/jats:italic> encodes a homolog of the UDP\u2010glucose pyrophosphorylase from potato. The product of <jats:italic>YKL251<\/jats:italic> contains the consensus for zinc binding proteins, similar to those of a number of fungal transcriptional activators.
