Here, this study proposes K\n                    <jats:sub>0.5<\/jats:sub>\n                    MnO\n                    <jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>\n                    as a potential cathode material for K\u2010ion batteries as an alternative to Li technology. K\n                    <jats:sub>0.5<\/jats:sub>\n                    MnO\n                    <jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>\n                    has a P3\u2010type layered structure and delivers a reversible specific capacity of \u2248100 mAh g\n                    <jats:sup>\u22121<\/jats:sup>\n                    with good capacity retention. In situ X\u2010ray diffraction analysis reveals that the material undergoes a reversible phase transition upon K extraction and insertion.
