Biological inheritance is shaped by the information contained in genes. Genetic evolution follows Darwinian laws of natural selection. Genetic mutations that provide an adaptive advantage for carriers in a specific environment are more likely to be passed on to future generations. To the extent that the environment remains stable, these traits then can eventually change the population's genetic makeup regarding this specific trait.
