The idea of the power of the gaze and the look is central to visual consumption, as is the development of visual technologies (camera and the internet), images, and changes in the commodity industry\u00a0\u2013\u00a0such as the development and establishment of department stores, the packaging industry, branding, and tourism. The image economy of visual consumption is made up of shopping windows, advertisements, souvenirs, postcards, websites, brands, and so forth. It also concerns managerial strategies for visualizing commodities and consumer gazes.
