His disease was characterized by neuropathy, episcleritis, gangrene, and a high serum titer of rheumatoid factor. His progressively deteriorating clinical course appeared to have been favorably influenced by penicillamine therapy, which also resulted in a marked fall in RF titer. He is now in his fourth year of remission, and is taking only this drug.
