Lymphocytes obtained by cannulation of the efferent duct of the sheep popliteal node were labeled <jats:italic>in vitro<\/jats:italic> with <jats:sup>125<\/jats:sup>I\u2010anti\u2010Ig antibodies. The percentage of lymphocytes labeling for \u03bc, \u03b3 or light chains, was, in each case, approximately 20 \u2013 25 %, but cells were most heavily\u2010labeled by anti\u2010\u03bc chain and least by anti\u2010\u03b3 chain antibodies. As the sum of the proportions of cells labeling for \u03bc and \u03b3 chains (total, 40.6 %) greatly exceeded that labeling for light chains (20.4 %), it was concluded that labeled cells had both \u03b3 and \u03bc chains exposed on their surfaces, probably as IgG and IgM.<\/jats:p><jats:p>Lymphocytes were titrated against anti\u2010\u03bc or anti\u2010\u03b3 chain sera and means (\u00b1 1 standard deviation) of 19 200 \u00b1 8200 molecules IgG and 14 700 \u00b1 9300 molecules IgM (19 S, or 73 600 \u00b1 46 800 molecules 8 S) were calculated to be exposed on the surface of each cell labeled by anti\u2010Ig antibodies.<\/jats:p><jats:p>It is suggested that those cells from the sheep which bound anti\u2010Ig antibodies were bone marrow\u2010derived lymphocytes as has been found in the mouse.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1002\/eji.1830030109","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2007,2,27]],"date-time":"2007-02-27T22:15:43Z","timestamp":1172614543000},"page":"37-43","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":17,"title":["Immunoglobulins on the surface of sheep lymphocytes I.
