It has been previously shown that B95\u20108 virus has and P3HR\u20101 virus lacks lymphocyte\u2010transforming (\u201cimmortalizing\u201d) properties. DNA stimulation induced by B95\u20108 virus showed a good correlation with the number of surface Ig\u2010positive cells. P3HR\u20101 virus added before B95\u20108 virus completely abolished the stimulation of DNA synthesis. It also prevented EBNA induction by B95\u20108 virus. P3HR\u20101 virus added after B95\u20108 virus diminished DNA stimulation by the latter in a time\u2010dependent fashion. P3HR\u20101 virus did not inhibit DNA stimulation by phytohaemagglutinin but was inhibitory if added before a B\u2010cell mitogen (<jats:italic>Staphylococcus Aureus<\/jats:italic>).
