Neurobiol."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[1972,1]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>Abstract<\/jats:title><jats:p>A method is described to record neuronal activity, steady potential, and the impedance of mammalian neural tissue maintained in culture without the perturbation of explants by the introduction of electrodes into the culture. A phenomenon similar, if not identical, to spreading depression is demonstrated and can be produced by a high concentration of potassium, by mechanical or electrical stimuli. The presence of neurons is not required for the characteristic dc shift and impedance changes recorded during this condition.
