{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2025,11,2]],"date-time":"2025-11-02T10:25:14Z","timestamp":1762079114239,"version":"build-2065373602"},"reference-count":41,"publisher":"Wiley","issue":"7","license":[{"start":{"date-parts":[[2009,2,18]],"date-time":"2009-02-18T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1234915200000},"content-version":"vor","delay-in-days":0,"URL":"http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/termsAndConditions#vor"}],"content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":["Adv Funct Materials"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2009,4,9]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>Abstract<\/jats:title><jats:p>An alternative approach to tailor the temperature coefficient of permittivity (<jats:italic>TC\u03b5<\/jats:italic><jats:sub>r<\/jats:sub>) of high <jats:italic>Q<\/jats:italic> dielectric BaO\u2013Re<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>\u2013TiO<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> (Re: rare earth elements) thick films is presented. 10\u2010 to 80\u2010\u00b5m\u2010thick BaNd<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>Ti<jats:sub>5<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>14<\/jats:sub> (BNT) films are fabricated by electrophoretic deposition on Pt foils under different processing conditions. Observed anisotropic grain growth is facilitated by constrained sintering. The increase of the sintering temperature increases markedly the aspect ratio of the grains, decreases the dielectric permittivity and <jats:italic>TC\u03b5<\/jats:italic><jats:sub>r<\/jats:sub> changes from \u2212114 to +12\u2009ppm \u00b0C<jats:sup>\u22121<\/jats:sup>. By controlling the sintering temperature, near\u2010zero <jats:italic>TC\u03b5<\/jats:italic><jats:sub><jats:italic>r<\/jats:italic><\/jats:sub>, high Q thick films can be fabricated with 45\u2009&lt;\u2009<jats:italic>\u03b5<\/jats:italic><jats:sub>r<\/jats:sub>\u2009&lt;\u200970. These findings are of technological relevance since they demonstrate that control of substrate constraint and sintering conditions can be used to control grain anisotropy and thus microwave properties of the BaO\u2013Re<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>\u2013TiO<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>. The thick films facilitate scaling to small device sizes for high frequency operation.
