Time\u2010resolved luminescence studies show that in <jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold> the energy difference between the H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>FDC triplet excited state (17794 cm<jats:sup>\u22121<\/jats:sup>) and the <jats:sup>5<\/jats:sup>D<jats:sub>0<\/jats:sub> Eu<jats:sup>3+<\/jats:sup> level (17241 cm<jats:sup>\u22121<\/jats:sup>) is small enough to allow a strong thermally activated ion\u2010to\u2010ligand back energy transfer. Whereas the emission of the ligand is essentially constant the <jats:sup>5<\/jats:sup>D<jats:sub>0<\/jats:sub>\u2192<jats:sup>7<\/jats:sup>F<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> intensity is quenched when the temperature increases from 12 to 320 K, rendering <jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold> the first single\u2010lanthanide organic framework ratiometric luminescent thermometer based on ion\u2010to\u2010ligand back energy transfer.
