Among other variables influencing the Mg degradation mechanism, monitoring the pH in the corrosive solution and, especially, at the corroding interface is important due to its direct relation with the formation and stability of the degradation products layer. The interface pH (pH at the Mg\/solution interface) developed on Mg\u20102Ag and E11 alloys are studied in situ during immersion under dynamic conditions (1.5\u00a0mL min<jats:sup>\u20101<\/jats:sup>) in HBSS with and without the physiological amount of Ca<jats:sup>2+<\/jats:sup> cations (2.5\u00a0\u00d7 10<jats:sup>\u20103<\/jats:sup> <jats:sc>m<\/jats:sc>). The results show that the precipitation\/dissolution of amorphous phosphate\u2010containing phases, that can be associated with apatitic calcium\u2010phosphates Ca<jats:sub>10\u2010<\/jats:sub><jats:italic><jats:sub>x<\/jats:sub><\/jats:italic>(PO<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub>)<jats:sub>6\u2010<\/jats:sub><jats:italic><jats:sub>x<\/jats:sub><\/jats:italic>(HPO<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub> or CO<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>)<jats:italic><jats:sub>x<\/jats:sub><\/jats:italic>(OH or \u00bd CO<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>)<jats:sub>2\u2010<\/jats:sub><jats:italic><jats:sub>x<\/jats:sub><\/jats:italic> with 0 \u2264 <jats:italic>x<\/jats:italic> \u2264 2 (Ap\u2010CaP), promoted in the presence of Ca<jats:sup>2+<\/jats:sup> generates an effective local pH buffering system at the surface.
