Challenges for the luminescent layer include the use of abundant and sustainable natural organic molecules. Here, LSCs composed of a glass container and based on bundles of cylindrical hollow\u2010core plastic optical fibers filled with aqueous solutions of R\u2010phycoerythrin (R\u2010PE), extracted from Gracilaria sp. algae are presented. The R\u2010PE solutions absorb in the UV\/visible spectral range (300\u2013550 nm) and convert this radiation into red\u2010emission (550\u2013700 nm) with a maximum absolute quantum yield of \u22480.39. In this work, LSCs with distinct geometries are reported, in which the R\u2010PE emission yields optical conversion efficiency values up to \u22486.88% and \u22484.74% for a planar device and for a bundle of cylindrical LSCs, respectively, which are the largest values known for liquid\u2010based LCSs using sustainable emitting centres. Moreover, the coupling of the LSCs to commercial Si\u2010based PV devices yields power conversion efficiency values of \u22480.27% (planar) and \u224823.03 \u00d7 10<jats:sup>\u22123<\/jats:sup>%, (bundle).
