The catalytic activity of <jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold> was tested in the Henry reaction and for the aerobic 2,2,6,6\u2010tetramethylpiperidin\u20101\u2010oxyl (TEMPO)\u2010mediated oxidation of benzyl alcohol. Compound\u2005<jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold> was also evaluated as a model system for the catechol oxidase enzyme by using 3,5\u2010di\u2010<jats:italic>tert<\/jats:italic>\u2010butylcatechol as the substrate. The kinetic data fitted the Michaelis\u2013Menten equation and enabled the obtainment of a rate constant for the catalytic reaction; this rate constant is among the highest obtained for this substrate with the use of dinuclear Cu<jats:sup>II<\/jats:sup> complexes.
