Aerial parts from these three related <jats:italic>Plectranthus<\/jats:italic> species were collected from cultivated plants grown in Portugal, during vegetative and flowering phases. Volatiles, isolated by distillation\uf8ffextraction, were analyzed by GC and GC\/MS. Monoterpene hydrocarbons (12\u201374%) and sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (4\u201345%) constituted the main fractions in all volatiles. <jats:italic>\u03b1<\/jats:italic>\u2010Pinene (<jats:bold>3<\/jats:bold>; 12\u201367%), oct\u20101\u2010en\u20103\u2010ol (<jats:bold>6<\/jats:bold>; traces\u201328%), <jats:italic>\u03b2<\/jats:italic>\u2010pinene (<jats:bold>7<\/jats:bold>; 0.1\u201322%), and <jats:italic>\u03b2<\/jats:italic>\u2010caryophyllene (<jats:bold>50<\/jats:bold>; 7\u201312%) dominated <jats:italic>P. barbatus<\/jats:italic> volatiles. <jats:italic>P. neochilus<\/jats:italic> major volatile components were <jats:italic>\u03b1<\/jats:italic>\u2010terpenyl acetate (<jats:bold>41<\/jats:bold>; traces\u201348%), <jats:italic>\u03b1<\/jats:italic>\u2010thujone (<jats:bold>2<\/jats:bold>; 2\u201328%), <jats:italic>\u03b2<\/jats:italic>\u2010caryophyllene (<jats:bold>50<\/jats:bold>; 2\u201328%), <jats:italic>\u03b2<\/jats:italic>\u2010pinene (<jats:bold>7<\/jats:bold>; 1\u201325%), and <jats:italic>\u03b1<\/jats:italic>\u2010pinene (<jats:bold>3<\/jats:bold>; 1\u201319%). Oct\u20101\u2010en\u20103\u2010ol (<jats:bold>6<\/jats:bold>; 13\u201331%), <jats:italic>\u03b2<\/jats:italic>\u2010pinene (<jats:bold>7<\/jats:bold>; 11\u201324%), <jats:italic>\u03b1<\/jats:italic>\u2010pinene (<jats:bold>3<\/jats:bold>; 11\u201319%), and <jats:italic>\u03b2<\/jats:italic>\u2010caryophyllene (<jats:bold>50<\/jats:bold>; traces\u201311%) were the main constituents from <jats:italic>P. ornatus<\/jats:italic> volatiles. These chemical compositions were rather different from those previously found for specimens harvested in Africa and Brazil. Moreover, the volatiles from the flowers are herewith reported for the first time. Essential oils, isolated by hydrodistillation from leaves and stems, showed a yellowish color and unpleasant odor, with yields ranging from 0.08% to 0.84% (<jats:italic>v<\/jats:italic>\/dry weight). Antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of the essential oils were evaluated by DPPH<jats:sup>.<\/jats:sup> and TBARS assays, and agar disc\u2010diffusion method, respectively.
