The materials were tested in the catalytic wet peroxide oxidation (CWPO) of highly concentrated 4\u2010nitrophenol solutions (4\u2010NP, 5\u2005g\u2009L<jats:sup>\u22121<\/jats:sup>). Relatively mild operating conditions were considered (atmospheric pressure, <jats:italic>T<\/jats:italic>=50\u2009\u00b0C, pH\u20053), using a catalyst load of 2.5\u2005g\u2009L<jats:sup>\u22121<\/jats:sup> and the stoichiometric amount of H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> needed for the complete mineralization of 4\u2010NP. N\u2010doping was identified to influence considerably the CWPO performance of the materials. In particular, undoped CNTs, with a moderate hydrophobicity, favor the controllable and efficient decomposition of H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> into highly reactive hydroxyl radicals (HO<jats:sup>.<\/jats:sup>), thus showing high catalytic activity for 4\u2010NP degradation. On the other hand, the completely N\u2010doped catalyst, fully hydrophilic, favors a quick decomposition of H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> into nonreactive O<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> and H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O species. The selectively N\u2010doped amphiphilic catalysts, that is, hybrid structures containing undoped sections followed by N\u2010doped ones, provided intermediate results, namely, a higher N content favored H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> decomposition towards nonreactive H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O and O<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> species, whereas a lower N content resulted in the formation of HO<jats:sup>.<\/jats:sup>, increasing 4\u2010NP mineralization.
