The compounds have VO<jats:sup>3+<\/jats:sup> (<jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold> and <jats:bold>2<\/jats:bold>), VO<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub><jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup> (<jats:bold>3<\/jats:bold> and <jats:bold>4<\/jats:bold>), and V<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub><jats:sup>4+<\/jats:sup> (<jats:bold>5<\/jats:bold> and <jats:bold>6<\/jats:bold>) cores. They are active homogeneous catalysts in the microwave\u2010assisted, solvent\u2010free peroxidative oxidation of 1\u2010phenylethanol to acetophenone by <jats:italic>t<\/jats:italic>BuOOH.
