ZSM\u20105 is a type of catalyst used in commercial olefin oligomerisation processes. Using appropriate modification procedures, it was possible to prepare catalysts with improved performances. Various modified versions of commercially available ZSM\u20105 were prepared and investigated for 1\u2010butene oligomerisation under high\u2010pressure, continuous\u2010flow operation (30\u2005bar, 200\u2009\u00b0C). Simple, up\u2010scalable top\u2010down strategies involving base\u2010acid treatments of ZSM\u20105 led to catalysts possessing enlarged pores and the required acidity for converting 1\u2010butene to higher molar mass products. In targeting diesel type products, the modified catalysts led to up to 86\u2009% butenes conversion, space time yield of 852\u2005mg\u2009g<jats:sub>cat<\/jats:sub><jats:sup>\u22121<\/jats:sup>\u2009h<jats:sup>\u22121<\/jats:sup> and mass ratio diesel:naphtha cuts of 2.2.
