Excitation of the 7\u2010methoxy\u20104\u2010methyl\u2010flavylium\u2013protocatechuic acid complex results in ultrafast (240\u2005fs) internal conversion to the ground state of the complex by way of a low\u2010lying charge\u2010transfer state.
