Compound <jats:bold>2<\/jats:bold> was characterized by single\u2010crystal X\u2010ray diffraction and <jats:sup>1<\/jats:sup>H\u2005NMR, IR, and UV\/Vis\/NIR spectroscopy. The magnetic properties of <jats:bold>2<\/jats:bold> and precursor <jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold> were studied by static magnetization and ac susceptibility measurements, which for the former revealed single\u2010molecule magnet behaviour for the first time in a mononuclear U<jats:sup>IV<\/jats:sup> compound, whereas trivalent uranium compound <jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold> does not exhibit slow relaxation of the magnetization at low temperatures.
