The two\u2010phase (gas\u2010liquid) non\u2010catalytic wet oxidation was compared with a three\u2010phase system (gas\u2010liquid\u2010solid) using CuO\u2010ZnO\/Al<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub> and Mn\u2010Ce\u2010O oxides catalysts. This study pointed out oxidation processes as quite promising technologies for industrial effluents containing PVA, leading to high reductions in PVA and total organic carbon (TOC) levels. Catalysts showed high activity at 180\u00b0C and carbon adsorption was not observed; Mn\u2010Ce\u2010O showed significant leaching to the liquid\u2010phase, compared with CuO\u2010ZnO\/Al<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>.
