The studied dipyrromethanes were tested against leukemia and lymphoma cell lines, and showed GI<jats:sub>50<\/jats:sub> values in the mid\u2010micromolar range. The pro\u2010apoptotic activities of two candidates, (<jats:italic>E<\/jats:italic>)\u20101\u2010(2\u2032\u2010ethoxycarbonylhydrazono\u20101\u2032\u2010benzyl\u20101<jats:italic>H<\/jats:italic>\u2010tetrazol\u20105\u2010yl)\u20105,5\u2032\u2010diethyldipyrromethane and (<jats:italic>E<\/jats:italic>)\u20101\u2010(2\u2032\u2010<jats:italic>p<\/jats:italic>\u2010nitrophenyl\u20102\u2032\u2010hydroxyiminoethyl)\u20105\u2010phenyldipyrromethane, and their effects on the cell cycle are described.
