Regioselective transformation of native \u03b1\u2010 and \u03b2\u2010cyclodextrins with the use of a bulky <jats:italic>tert<\/jats:italic>\u2010butyldiphenylsilyl protecting group afforded the desired 6\u2010monosubstituted permethylated cyclodextrin derivatives in moderate yields. The new ionic liquids were tested as stationary phases in capillary GC columns towards chiral discrimination in enantio\u2010GC analysis of racemic mixtures. The permethylated 6\u2010deoxy\u20106\u2010pyridin\u20101\u2010ium\u2010\u03b1\u2010cyclodextrin trifluoromethanesulfonate displayed good enantiomeric separations for some racemic esters and lactones, as well as epoxides.
