Technol."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2008,11]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>Abstract<\/jats:title><jats:p>Syntheses, structures, and electrochemistry of a dialkoxo\u2010bridged diuranyl(VI) compound [(UO<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>)<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>(L<jats:sup>1<\/jats:sup>)<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>(dimethylformamide)<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>] (<jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold>) and a mononuclear\u2013mononuclear cocrystalline compound [(UO<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>)(L<jats:sup>2<\/jats:sup>)(H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O)\u2282(H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O)]\u00b7[(UO<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>)(L<jats:sup>2<\/jats:sup>)(H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O)] (<jats:bold>2<\/jats:bold>) derived from Schiff base ligands are reported (H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>L<jats:sup>1<\/jats:sup> = Schiff base ligand obtained on condensation of 3\u2010ethoxysalicylaldehyde with 2\u2010aminoethanol; H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>L<jats:sup>2<\/jats:sup> =<jats:italic> N<\/jats:italic>,<jats:italic>N<\/jats:italic> \u2032\u2010<jats:italic>o<\/jats:italic> \u2010phenylenebis(3\u2010ethoxysalicylaldimine)). The compounds <jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold> and <jats:bold>2<\/jats:bold> crystallize in the space groups <jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic> 2<jats:sub>1<\/jats:sub>\/<jats:italic>c<\/jats:italic> and <jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic> 1, respectively. Compound <jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold> is a dialkoxo\u2010bridged dinuclear compound of uranium(VI) containing two deprotonated ligands, [L]<jats:sup>2\u2013<\/jats:sup>, two dimethylformamide (dmf) molecules and two UO<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub><jats:sup>2+<\/jats:sup> centers. Three C\u2013H\u00b7\u00b7\u00b7O type hydrogen bonds involving one uranyl oxygen, two dmf hydrogens, and the imine hydrogen link the dinuclear units into a two\u2010dimensional network. Compound <jats:bold>2<\/jats:bold> is a cocrystal of two mononuclear units, [(UO<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>)(L<jats:sup>2<\/jats:sup>)(H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O)\u2282(H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O)] (unit 1) and [(UO<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>)(L<jats:sup>2<\/jats:sup>)(H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O)] (unit 2). In unit 1, the non\u2010coordinated water molecule forms hydrogen bonds with oxygens of phenoxo, ethoxy, and coordinated water molecules resulting in the formation of an inclusion product. The overall supramolecular structure of compound <jats:bold>2<\/jats:bold> is one\u2010dimensional and consists of interlinked self\u2010assembled dimeric unit of unit 1 and unit 2. Cyclic voltammetric measurements reveal that the uranium(VI) center in [(UO<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>)<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>(L<jats:sup>1<\/jats:sup>)<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>(dimethylformamide)<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>] (<jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold>) is reduced quasireversibly at <jats:italic>E<\/jats:italic><jats:sub>1\/2<\/jats:sub> = \u2013773 mV with \u0394<jats:italic>E<\/jats:italic><jats:sub>P<\/jats:sub> = 121 mV, while the metal center in [(UO<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>)(L<jats:sup>2<\/jats:sup>)(H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O)\u2282(H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O)]\u00b7[(UO<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>)(L<jats:sup>2<\/jats:sup>)(H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O)] (<jats:bold>2<\/jats:bold>) is reduced reversibly with <jats:italic>E<\/jats:italic><jats:sub>1\/2<\/jats:sub> = \u2013765 mV with \u0394<jats:italic>E<\/jats:italic><jats:sub>P<\/jats:sub> = 68 mV.
