The simple, economical, and fully incinerable (C,H,O,N) AcABS composed of tetrabutylammonium nitrate ([N<jats:sub>4444<\/jats:sub>][NO<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>])+HNO<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>+H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O was characterized and presented an excellent selectivity towards Ce<jats:sup>IV<\/jats:sup> against other rare earth elements and transition metals from both synthetic solutions and nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery leachates.
